Tires: Assets, Not Acquisitions
Instead of seeing tires as a one-time purchase, treating them as assets can extend their life and save costs. Choosing the right tire, maintaining proper pressure, and identifying mechanical issues early are key. Fountain Tire supports fleets with expert advice, maintenance services, and education programs to help maximize tire performance and lifespan.
Buying new tires is a big expense when managing a fleet. And it’s easy to think of this purchase as a simple acquisition: once you buy the tires, you use them until it’s time for new ones.
But what if you thought about your tires as an asset? As something that can last longer the more you care about them? That’s how we see them, anyway.
If you’re interested in getting the most out of your tires, we have some tips to help get you started:
Tire Selection
When choosing tires, make sure you know what those tires will be used for. All tires are built for different applications, and using the wrong tire for the job will wear your tires down much faster. Factors to consider include wheel position, type of ground your vehicle is operating on, and the weight of the vehicle including your load weight.
Tire Maintenance
After you have a new set of tires and start using them, it is important to maintain them. One of the most common problems we see is tires being driven with insufficient air pressure. Not only does low air pressure wear out a tire much faster, it can also lead to more fuel consumption for your vehicle.
Keep a close eye on how your tires are wearing. Unusual wear and tear on your tires are often the symptom of a larger mechanical problem somewhere else in your vehicle, such as incorrect alignment, twisted axles or bad shocks. Addressing these underlying problems will ultimately prolong the life of your tires and help increase your fuel efficiency.
Tire Retreading and Disposal
Once your tires aren’t fit for the road anymore, you don’t need to think about disposing of them just yet. Instead, you should think about tire retreading. If you take care of your tires and get them checked often, you will find that you can get up to three retreads on a single tire!
How We Can Help
Here at Fountain Tire, we are strong believers of proper tire care and maintenance practices. That’s why we offer various services to ensure that your assets are in good hands from the moment you decide to start looking at new tires. We want to ensure you get the most out of your tires throughout their entire lifecycle.
On top of our regular fleet services, we are proud to offer operator awareness and maintenance awareness education seminars to our customers.
Whether you are a fleet manager, owner, operator, or mechanic, this education is designed to teach you what to look for on your tires so that you can flag any problems early on—and before they start affecting your tires. Our experts will guide you through inspecting a vehicle from front to back, providing education at each step of your tire’s journey.
On top of awareness seminars, we are also able to provide customers with an electronic copy of the Radical Tire Conditions Analysis Guide. This guide serves as a manual for everything you need to know regarding the condition of your tires and can help you stay on top of maintenance.
Your tires are one of the most important assets to your fleet. At the end of the day, developing a practice of maintenance for your tires will help ensure your tires last as long as possible. At Fountain Tire, we’re here to help you make that happen.
