CIM Connect Vancouver 2026: Why This Is Canada’s Mining Moment
From May 4–6, our Leadership and Mine Service team participated in CIM Connect in Vancouver, Canada’s premier mining convention and expo. The conversations, sessions, and connections throughout the week reinforced a clear message: Canadian mining is at a defining moment.
Across the conference, industry leaders highlighted the scale of Canada’s untapped mining potential. With global demand for critical minerals accelerating, Canada has a unique opportunity to lead—but only if growth is paired with innovation, safety, and long‑term thinking.
As our CEO Jason Herle observed while walking the trade show floor:
“It is abundantly clear that Canada’s mining industry is strong and vibrant. The participation, attendance, and optimism were unmistakable. What stood out was how much new technology and innovation is being integrated into this mature industry—working smarter to drive improved efficiencies and quicker turnaround times.”
Innovation emerged as a constant theme—not in isolated pockets, but across every stage of the mining lifecycle. From exploration and processing to maintenance and sustainability, technology is rapidly reshaping how mining is done. The takeaway was clear: innovation is no longer optional—it is foundational to safe, efficient, and competitive operations.
That perspective was echoed by Nelson Tonn, VP of Sales and Mining, who reflected on the broader opportunity ahead:
“Canada has enormous mining potential—we’re really just scratching the surface. When it comes to Indigenous relationships, it’s clear that long‑term success comes when those relationships are viewed as a privilege, not an obligation.”
Safety discussions, which are near and dear to us, went beyond compliance, centering on real world conditions and human behaviour under pressure.
Finally, CIM Connect reaffirmed the enduring importance of relationships. Time spent with customers, partners, and peers—sharing perspectives and learning from one another—remains invaluable. While technology is accelerating change, collaboration is what turns opportunity into progress.
We left CIM Connect energized and optimistic. Canada has the resources, talent, and ingenuity to lead the next chapter of mining—and the decisions made now will shape that future for decades to come.
