Fountain Tire demonstrates environmental responsibility by doing the following:
Tire Recycling
- Fountain Tire collects an environmental fee on the sale of new tires. 100% of funds collected are given to provincial tire recycling boards for use in collection, transportation, and recycling of old tires.
- Recycled tires are reincarnated in a variety of uses: playground materials, moulded products such as patio "pavers", roofing tiles, truck-bed liners, livestock feeders, vehicle ramps, interlocking bricks, parking curbs, swings, flooring, engineering materials, and alternate fuels.
Retreading
- Retreading is the process of putting a new tread on a tire that is worn down and can no longer be used.
- Every year in North America, the use of retreads saves over 1.8 billion litres of oil that would otherwise be used in the manufacturing of new tires.
Disposal of Fluids
- Automotive service providers use oils and solvents that can be harmful to the environment if not disposed of properly. Fountain Tire collects all of these fluids and has them removed, and either recycled or disposed of, in a safe manner.
Emissions Testing
- The AirCare® Emissions Testing program in B.C.'s Lower Mainland has greatly reduced vehicle pollution. The principle behind the program is that vehicles that aren't functioning properly put out, on average, 2.5 times the emissions they normally would. The AirCare® program identifies those vehicles so that they can be repaired to meet the emissions standards of the program.
- Fountain Tire has numerous AirCare® Certified Auto Centers throughout the Lower Mainland.
